The Tartous Directorate of Antiquities has launched the “Marqab Brightness” campaign to clean and rehabilitate the historic Marqab Castle, as part of ongoing efforts to preserve one of Syria’s most prominent historical landmarks. The initiative witnessed broad participation from government institutions and members of the local community.

The campaign included the removal of dense weeds and vegetation throughout the castle grounds, helping protect the archaeological site from the risk of wildfires, particularly in rugged areas that are difficult for firefighting teams and equipment to access. The work also contributes to preserving the castle’s architectural elements and safeguarding its historical value.

The initiative also included cleaning the road connecting Marqab Castle with the neighboring village, making access easier for visitors and technical teams working at the site, while improving services provided to visitors and enhancing the castle’s readiness to welcome tourists in the coming period.

This initiative is part of the ongoing efforts of the Directorate-General of Antiquities and Museums and the Tartous Directorate of Antiquities to preserve archaeological sites and strengthen cooperation with the local community in conservation and rehabilitation activities, reinforcing awareness of the importance of protecting cultural heritage and ensuring its sustainability for future generations.
