Dimasheq – Amman – Exclusive
As part of his visit to the Jordanian capital, Amman, Syrian Minister of Culture Mohammad Yassin Al-Saleh accepted an invitation from a group of Jordanian writers, publishers, and intellectuals to participate in a special dialogue session hosted by the Politics and Society Institute. The event was attended by a distinguished audience of Jordanian intellectuals, politicians, researchers, and several former Jordanian Ministers of Culture and Information.
The session, titled “The New Syria: Cultural Diplomacy and Its Challenges,” explored the current state of Syria’s cultural landscape during the transitional period and examined the role that culture and cultural diplomacy can play in promoting dialogue, openness, and stronger ties with the Arab region and the international community.
Participants discussed the key challenges facing Syria’s cultural sector and institutions, priorities for developing cultural policies, the role of culture in safeguarding national identity and strengthening social cohesion, as well as the importance of cultural and intellectual cooperation in supporting Syrian-Jordanian relations and expanding spaces for constructive dialogue.
The meeting featured an open discussion between Minister Al-Saleh and the attendees, addressing the transformations taking place in Syria, prospects for cultural cooperation between the two countries, and the role of intellectual and cultural elites in supporting the country’s next phase.
During his visit to the institute, Minister Al-Saleh was briefed on its main national and regional programs and projects, particularly the work of the Syrian-Jordanian Relations Unit within the institute’s Research Department. The unit was established in 2023 to study bilateral relations, monitor developments in Syria, and promote dialogue and cooperation between the two countries.
The visit coincides with the Syrian Minister of Culture’s participation in the Jerash Festival of Culture and Arts. Earlier today, he was welcomed by Jordanian Minister of Culture Mustafa Al-Rawashdeh as part of his official visit to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, which includes a series of meetings and cultural activities aimed at strengthening cultural cooperation between the two countries
