Dimasheq – Exclusive
Security sources have denied the accuracy of circulating reports claiming that the government plans to relocate several sovereign ministries and vital institutions from the capital, Damascus, to other Syrian cities in anticipation of a possible Israeli attack.
The sources told Dimasheq that reports claiming that ministries and government institutions would be moved to the governorates of Aleppo, Hama, Raqqa, and Deir ez-Zor were untrue, stressing that there are no plans to relocate sovereign ministries from Damascus.
They explained that activities underway in some governorates fall within the framework of administrative and security work organisation and infrastructure development, including the establishment of new buildings for certain ministries and institutions. These measures aim to facilitate their operations and expand the scope of their services and are not related to any plan to evacuate the capital of government institutions.
The Turkish newspaper Türkiye Gazetesi had published a report stating that the government was considering relocating three ministries to Aleppo and the Ministry of Defence to Hama, alongside discussions about moving vital institutions, including the Central Bank of Syria and the oil, agriculture, water, and economy institutions, to inland areas.
The report claimed that these measures were part of a plan to geographically redistribute government institutions and protect them from the consequences of a potential Israeli ground attack.
However, the sources stressed that this information was not based on accurate facts, reaffirming that no changes are planned to the locations of sovereign ministries and that none will be relocated from the capital, Damascus.
