Dimasheq – Special Report
Specialist Dania Samani works at Amal Khani Center for Autism and Developmental Disorders, focusing on children’s motor rehabilitation through a gradual programme consisting of 18 motor positions, beginning with lying on the back and progressing towards enabling the child to walk independently.
Samani explained that the programme, developed by Dr. Doaa Abdul Latif Othman, is based on initially providing support and points of stability for different parts of the child’s body, then gradually reducing this support as the child’s motor abilities develop and their muscles gain the necessary strength.
She noted that the rehabilitation stages begin by training the child to move from lying on their back to lying on their stomach, helping them lift their head and strengthen their neck muscles. The programme then gradually progresses to raising the elbows and chest, while reducing the points of stability and support at each stage.
She added that these successive steps aim to strengthen the body’s muscles in a comprehensive and healthy manner, while developing the child’s balance and motor control, ultimately reaching the final stage, in which the child becomes able to stand and walk independently.
