As part of its cultural programme, the Latakia Directorate of Culture hosted a lecture entitled “The Impact of Grammatical Terminology on the Formation of Poetic Imagery,” delivered by Dr. Yasser Manoun. The lecture addressed the close relationship between Arabic grammar and the aesthetics of poetry, as well as the role of linguistic structure in enriching literary expression and shaping poetic imagery.

Manoun explained that grammatical terminology is not limited to rigid linguistic rules; rather, it represents artistic and aesthetic tools that contribute to constructing poetic texts and giving them semantic and expressive dimensions that enhance their impact on the reader.

The lecture discussed several grammatical structures that play a central role in shaping poetic imagery, including fronting and postponement, ellipsis, definiteness and indefiniteness, and the choice of sentence type. It also examined the use of pronouns and particles of emphasis and interrogation, noting that these elements contribute to deepening meaning and highlighting the aesthetic and evocative aspects of the text.

The lecturer emphasised that poets consciously and creatively employ the possibilities of language and the rules of grammar, transforming linguistic rules into a means of artistic expression and meaning-making. Thus, poetic imagery emerges from the integration of meaning with linguistic and stylistic structure, highlighting the richness of the Arabic language and its ability to embrace poetic creativity.
