The Politics and Society Institute in the Jordanian capital, Amman, hosted a private closed-door dialogue session dedicated to discussing the state of Syrian culture during the transitional period. The session was attended by the Minister of Culture of the Syrian Arab Republic, Mohammad Yassin Al-Saleh, along with a distinguished group of Jordanian intellectuals, politicians, and researchers.
The session, titled “The New Syria: Cultural Diplomacy and Its Challenges,” addressed the key challenges facing the cultural sector and its institutions. Participants also discussed priorities for developing cultural policies, the role of culture in strengthening national identity, promoting dialogue and social cohesion, and building cultural bridges between Syria and its Arab and international partners.
The discussion included an exchange of views on the importance of cultural diplomacy as a tool for fostering openness and regional cooperation, while highlighting the role culture can play in supporting recovery efforts and rebuilding trust during the coming phase.
On the sidelines of the visit, the Minister of Culture reviewed the Politics and Society Institute’s main programs and activities at both the national and regional levels, including the work of the Syrian–Jordanian Relations Unit within the Institute’s Research Department. Established in 2023, the unit aims to study relations between the two countries, monitor developments in Syria, and expand opportunities for dialogue and cooperation between both sides.
