The Statistical Office of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia revealed that Syrians have maintained their position as the nationality receiving the highest number of German citizenships in the state for the fifth consecutive year.
The office explained that 18,567 Syrians obtained German citizenship, accounting for 24.4% of the total naturalization cases recorded in the state.
Despite continuing to top the list, the number of naturalized Syrians declined in 2025 by 23.7% compared to the previous year, after the number of Syrians granted citizenship had reached 24,349 in 2024.
In the same context, the number of Syrian migrants arriving in Germany decreased by 46.5% during 2025, according to preliminary data issued by the Federal Statistical Office. The figures showed that around 40,000 Syrian migrants were registered between January and September 2025, compared to more than 74,600 migrants during the same period of the previous year.
