Syrian Minister of Tourism Mazen Al-Salhani stated that Syria’s tourism sector is showing clear signs of recovery, driven by improved stability over recent months, which has directly contributed to increased tourism activity, particularly during the holiday season.
Speaking during a panel discussion at the Syrian-British Business Council Conference held in Damascus on Wednesday, Al-Salhani said that hotel occupancy rates and tourist arrivals increased by 150% to 200% compared with the same period last year. He noted that these figures reflect growing demand for tourist destinations across various regions of the country.
The minister added that the Ministry of Tourism is simultaneously working to address a number of stalled hotel projects that have remained inactive since 2006, with the aim of bringing them back into operation through new investment plans. This, he explained, will help expand the accommodation capacity of the hospitality sector and improve the quality of services provided to visitors.
Al-Salhani further emphasized that the ministry is focused on creating a favorable environment for tourism investment by reactivating suspended projects and encouraging investors to launch new ventures in the sector, supporting efforts to revitalize tourism and strengthen its contribution to the national economy.
The minister’s remarks come as the Syrian government seeks to attract more investment into the tourism sector and capitalize on improving security and public service conditions in several areas, with the goal of accelerating the recovery of tourism and restoring activity to hotels and tourist facilities.
