The General Establishment of the Euphrates Dam in Syria warned on Saturday against approaching or swimming in the Euphrates River, urging residents to quickly remove agricultural equipment located near the riverbanks amid expectations of rising water levels in the coming days.
The director of the General Establishment of the Euphrates Dam in Syria, , stated that the filling rate of the dam lakes has exceeded 97% due to heavy rainfall and the continued flow of water through the Euphrates River.
He explained that the volume of water released through the Kdeiran Dam will gradually increase from around 500 cubic meters per second to nearly 800 cubic meters per second, which will lead to higher river levels in the regions of and .
Bakour confirmed that the expected rise will not pose a threat to villages and towns located along both sides of the river. However, he stressed the importance of avoiding the Euphrates River and refraining from swimming in it to prevent any potential risks, noting that the higher water levels are expected to continue for several days alongside the increased operation of the Kdeiran Dam turbines.
