The Solhi Al-Wadi Institute of Music, affiliated with the Ministry of Culture, continues to fulfill its educational and cultural mission since its establishment in 1961. As Syria’s oldest governmental academic institution specializing in music education, it remains one of the country’s most prominent cultural landmarks, contributing significantly to the development of academic music culture and the preparation of generations of musicians and artists.
The institute welcomes students between the ages of 7 and 18, offering specialized educational programs that combine theoretical studies with practical training. This approach helps nurture and refine musical talents according to recognized academic standards.
The institute comprises six educational departments covering various musical disciplines, including instrumental performance and theoretical studies, providing students with the knowledge and skills necessary to build their artistic and professional careers.
For more than six decades, the institute has served as a key pillar of Syria’s musical life, graduating young musicians and supplying cultural and artistic institutions with academically qualified talents. It has maintained its leading role in promoting musical culture and strengthening the presence of music as an essential component of the national cultural identity.
The celebration of the institute’s legacy coincides with World Music Day, observed annually on June 21, reaffirming the importance of music as a universal language that brings people together and promotes creativity and cultural dialogue.
