The Deputy Minister of Culture concluded an extensive field tour of the historic city of Bosra al-Sham, aimed at assessing the city’s cultural and archaeological landscape and enhancing coordination among relevant authorities to preserve its rich historical and cultural heritage.
The tour included a series of meetings with the Bosra al-Sham Local Council and the Directorate of Antiquities and Museums in Daraa Governorate. Discussions focused on mechanisms for joint cooperation to develop a comprehensive plan for protecting archaeological and heritage sites and safeguarding the city’s historical identity, as Bosra al-Sham is considered one of Syria’s most significant archaeological cities.
Participants also addressed ways to overcome the challenges facing archaeological sites and improve coordination between local institutions and cultural authorities, contributing to the preservation of historical landmarks and strengthening their cultural and tourism significance.
During the tour, the Deputy Minister of Culture emphasized the importance of integrated efforts among national and local institutions, stressing that protecting cultural heritage is a national responsibility that requires coordinated action and practical programs to preserve archaeological sites for future generations.
The tour comes as part of the Ministry of Culture’s ongoing efforts to monitor the condition of archaeological sites across Syria’s governorates and to develop effective strategies for safeguarding cultural heritage while reinforcing its role in supporting national identity and cultural development.
