Syrian Minister of Culture Mohammad Yassin Al-Saleh affirmed that Syria’s official participation in the opening of the 40th Jerash Festival for Culture and Arts represents an important cultural milestone that reflects the country’s return to its Arab and cultural environment. He noted that the participation also underscores the strength of Syrian-Jordanian relations and the role of culture in strengthening the shared bonds between peoples.

In remarks to CNN Arabic, Al-Saleh said that Syria’s future “is moving steadily toward building a state worthy of the sacrifices of its people and its civilizational and cultural heritage that spans thousands of years,” adding that the country is advancing confidently into a new phase rooted in its history and cultural identity.

The minister, who is attending the festival at the head of a Syrian cultural delegation, added that Syria “is shedding the legacy of the previous era and moving confidently toward the future,” referring to the period of Assad’s rule, while stressing that the country’s current path is based on deliberate and steady steps.

Al-Saleh described Syria’s participation in the Jerash Festival as “a historic return to its natural surroundings,” noting that the country’s period of isolation has come to an end and that its presence at Arab cultural events reflects the restoration of its role and standing.

He pointed out that Syria’s presence in Jerash comes as a natural continuation of its cultural identity, saying that being in the Jordanian city is no different from being in historic Syrian cities such as Bosra Al-Sham and Palmyra, given their shared civilizational heritage, cultural spaces, and common values. He added that Syria is returning today to reaffirm, both domestically and internationally, its active presence and the restoration of its natural position in line with its history and the sacrifices of its people.

In a related development, Jordan’s Al Mamlaka TV reported that Syrian Minister of Culture Mohammad Yassin Al-Saleh and Jordanian Minister of Culture Mustafa Al-Rawashdeh agreed to renew and update the cultural agreements between the two countries and expand modern areas of cultural cooperation, further strengthening the historic ties between the Syrian and Jordanian peoples.
