Foiled Sabotage Plot Targeting Syrian Government Figures
The Syrian Ministry of Interior announced on Tuesday that the competent authorities, in coordination with the General Intelligence Service, had successfully thwarted what it described as a “terrorist” plot aimed at destabilizing the country’s security and targeting its key figures.
In an official statement, the ministry explained that simultaneous security operations were carried out in Damascus, Aleppo, Homs, Tartus, and Latakia. These operations led to the dismantling of an organized cell linked to Lebanon’s Hezbollah. According to the statement, the group’s members had infiltrated Syrian territory after undergoing intensive training in Lebanon.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the cell was planning acts of sabotage, including systematic assassination operations targeting senior government officials.
The ministry reaffirmed its continued commitment to taking all necessary measures to protect internal security and ensure the safety of citizens, emphasizing its full readiness to confront any threats to the country’s stability.
