Syrian Minister of Culture Mohammad Yassin Al-Saleh, accompanied by the Head of Authorities at the Ministry of Culture, poet Anas Al-Daghim, visited the headquarters of the Jordanian Poets Association in Amman. The visit, attended by Dr. Aqel Al-Khawaldeh, representative of the Jordanian Minister of Culture, marked the first visit by an Arab Minister of Culture to the association.
The delegation was welcomed by the President of the Jordanian Poets Association, poet Taysir Al-Shamasin, along with members of the association’s administrative board and general assembly. During the meeting, both sides discussed ways to strengthen cultural cooperation between Syria and Jordan and enhance coordination between their cultural institutions, reflecting the deep historical and fraternal ties between the two countries.
In his remarks, Minister Al-Saleh expressed his appreciation for the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan—its leadership, government, and people—emphasizing Syria’s commitment to expanding cultural cooperation with Jordan and promoting joint cultural initiatives. He also praised the experience of the Jordanian Poets Association and its role in supporting the Arab poetic movement, preserving poetic heritage, and fostering its development.
For his part, Association President Taysir Al-Shamasin affirmed the association’s readiness to dedicate its expertise and capabilities to serving Arabic poetry, particularly in Syria, in a way that strengthens cultural relations and reinforces the bonds of brotherhood and cooperation between the two countries.
The meeting, moderated by Jordanian poet Ali Al-Faouri, featured welcoming remarks and poetry readings by several members of the association. Speaking on behalf of the association, poet and lawyer Mohammad Al-Majal described the visit as a practical step toward strengthening Jordanian-Syrian cultural partnership and underscored the importance of cooperation among Arab cultural institutions.
The visit is particularly significant as it is the first by an Arab Minister of Culture to the headquarters of the Jordanian Poets Association, reflecting growing interest in expanding Arab cultural cooperation and fostering closer ties between literary and cultural institutions in both countries.
