The Ministry of Culture, through its Directorate of Supply and Support, has begun preparing the engineering studies for the rehabilitation project of Al-Qabbani and Al-Hamra Theatres in Damascus. The project is part of a broader plan to upgrade the infrastructure of cultural institutions and restore two of Syria’s most prominent theatres to ensure they are fully equipped to host artistic and cultural events.

The initial phase of the project included field visits conducted by specialized engineering committees, during which comprehensive technical inspections of both buildings were carried out. The committees assessed the structural and technical condition of the theatres and identified the requirements needed to prepare the engineering and technical studies that will serve as the foundation for the upcoming rehabilitation works.

The studies aim to develop an integrated vision for restoration and modernization, including improvements to the theatres’ technical and service infrastructure, enhancing their operational efficiency in preparation for the implementation phase in accordance with the approved plans.

The Ministry affirmed that the project is part of its ongoing program to preserve and develop Syria’s cultural and theatrical assets while safeguarding venues that represent an important part of the country’s cultural heritage. The initiative also seeks to meet the needs of the theatre sector and strengthen its capacity to host performances and cultural events.

Through this project, the Ministry of Culture aims to provide a comprehensive cultural environment that supports artists and creators, revitalizes the theatrical scene, and offers the public modern, well-equipped cultural venues.
