For the first time since Syria’s liberation and after years of absence, the Syrian Ministry of Culture is participating in the 40th edition of the Jerash Festival for Culture and Arts in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, taking place from 25 to 29 July. The participation marks the return of Syria’s cultural presence to one of the Arab world’s most prominent cultural events.
This participation comes as part of the Ministry’s efforts to strengthen cultural ties with Arab countries and to showcase Syria’s rich cultural identity through an artistic program highlighting the country’s diverse folk and traditional heritage.
Representing the Ministry at the festival is the Dance Ensemble, which will present a series of folkloric and traditional performances inspired by the Syrian environment. The performances will feature traditional dances, costumes, and folk music reflecting the cultural diversity of Syria’s various governorates and emphasizing the richness of the nation’s heritage and its many traditions.
The Ministry affirmed that this participation conveys a cultural message reflecting Syria’s renewed presence in the Arab cultural sphere and highlighting the role of the arts in promoting dialogue and bringing peoples closer together. It also aims to introduce audiences to Syria’s rich civilizational heritage, which has long been a cornerstone of the region’s cultural identity.
Syria’s participation is particularly significant as it coincides with the 40th anniversary of the Jerash Festival, one of the leading cultural and artistic festivals in the Arab world, providing an opportunity to present a renewed image of Syrian culture and the creativity of its artists to a broad Arab and international audience.
