The Syrian Ministry of Interior announced on Saturday that ongoing investigations into members of what it described as the “Damascus Bombings Cell,” who were recently arrested, have established their responsibility for the bombing that targeted the Armament Administration building of the Ministry of Defense in Damascus last May.
In a statement, the ministry said that the investigation results, along with forensic evidence analysis and the matching of security intelligence, confirmed the suspects’ involvement in carrying out what it described as a “terrorist bombing.” It added that the detainees confessed during questioning to executing the attack.
According to the statement, the suspects admitted that the objective of the attack was to target public institutions, undermine security and stability, and spread chaos among civilians.
The Ministry of Interior stressed that investigations are still ongoing to identify all individuals involved and anyone who may have assisted the cell, in preparation for taking the necessary legal measures against them. It also reaffirmed that the security agencies will continue pursuing anyone proven to have been connected to the attack or to have provided any form of support to its perpetrators.
