Rural Damascus Governorate continues to implement the first phase of its plan to repair and rehabilitate local roads across various areas of the governorate, with completion rates exceeding 40% at most sites, paving the way for asphalt paving works to begin next week.
Abdullah Al-Khatib, Deputy Governor of Rural Damascus for Technical Affairs, said that maintenance works began five days ago and covered six road corridors, with plans to expand in the coming days to include 12 corridors as part of a plan aimed at improving the governorate’s road network.
Al-Khatib explained that the first phase includes the repair and rehabilitation of approximately 40 kilometers of local roads, according to a 40-day schedule. Implementation priorities are determined based on the needs of each area, the importance of the roads, traffic density, and the technical condition of each corridor, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).
The current works include milling and preparation for resurfacing several road corridors, most notably the main road in the city of Harasta and the Arbin–Zamalka road extending to the Southern Ring Road.
Al-Khatib confirmed that the governorate’s plan for the current year also includes more than 30 additional road corridors for maintenance and rehabilitation projects, covering various areas of Rural Damascus, including Ghouta, southern Damascus, Zabadani, Qalamoun, Al-Tall, and Darayya.
