In celebration of the enduring literary legacy of the renowned Arab poet Abu Tammam, and as part of its mission to preserve national identity while promoting intellectual awareness and creativity, the Ministry of Culture is organizing the Abu Tammam Poetry Festival on 28–29 June 2026. The event will begin at 4:30 p.m. at the Cultural Center in Daraa and will bring together a distinguished group of poets, writers, and cultural enthusiasts.

The festival serves as a tribute to one of the most prominent figures of classical Arabic poetry. Abu Tammam’s name has long been associated with innovation and excellence in Arabic literature, and his poetic experience remains a landmark in the history of Arab culture. From the land of Hauran, his words transcended the boundaries of time and place, leaving a lasting imprint on the Arab literary tradition through their intellectual depth, artistic beauty, and noble human values.

The festival aims to revive the rich heritage of Arabic poetry, highlight Abu Tammam’s distinguished literary status, enhance cultural activity in Daraa Governorate, and create spaces for dialogue and creativity among different generations of poets and intellectuals.

The festival program includes poetry evenings and literary readings inspired by Abu Tammam’s life and creative legacy, in addition to cultural activities that underscore the importance of poetry as a powerful expression of identity and collective consciousness, as well as its role in fostering cultural awareness and promoting humanistic and aesthetic values.

The Ministry of Culture invites the public, literature lovers, and poetry enthusiasts to attend the festival’s events and take part in this cultural celebration honoring one of the greatest figures of Arabic literature, reaffirming the enduring presence of the creative word in society and cultural life.
