Syrian Minister of Economy and Industry Nidal Al-Shaar affirmed that the government aims to transform Syria into a regional hub for the textile industry over the next ten years, building on the sector’s strong production capabilities and skilled workforce.

Speaking on Saturday during a panel discussion held as part of the Syria International Textile Exhibition “Nass Tex 2026,” Al-Shaar said the government is working to support and develop the textile sector in partnership with the private sector. He called on industry representatives to present a unified vision and a clear framework covering the nine stages of textile production, while preparing strategic plans to keep pace with global transformations in the industry.

He also stressed the importance of maximizing the potential of Syria’s cotton sector, noting that the country’s economic cotton production could reach between 300,000 and 400,000 tons annually. According to Al-Shaar, this output would meet domestic market demand while supporting the textile industry, alongside Syria’s accumulated expertise, skilled labor, and strategic geographic location.

Al-Shaar described Nass Tex 2026 as a new starting point for advancing Syria’s textile sector and increasing its contribution to the national economy.

The first edition of the Syria International Textile Exhibition “Nass Tex 2026” officially opened on Saturday at the Conference Palace in Damascus under the patronage and in the presence of President Ahmed Al-Sharaa. The event brought together government officials, international delegations, business leaders, and key economic stakeholders.

Held at the Damascus New Fairgrounds, the exhibition features more than 300 companies from over 20 countries, showcasing the latest innovations in textiles, including fabrics, home furnishings, curtains, furniture, textile manufacturing machinery, yarns, raw materials, as well as digital transformation solutions and advanced industrial technologies.
