Resumption of Frog Exports in Syria – Hama Environment Directorate
The Hama Environment Directorate has announced the registration of the first request to export frogs after years of suspension, signaling a gradual revival of this agro-environmental activity in Syria.
Sawsan Al-Hammoud, Head of the Natural Resources Safety Department at the Directorate, stated that frog-breeding farms have begun to resume operations following a prolonged halt caused by the war, displacement, and the destruction of infrastructure.
Exports are subject to strict regulatory requirements, most notably:
Obtaining an environmental permit from the Ministry of Local Administration and Environment
Approval from the Biodiversity Directorate
An additional administrative license prior to export authorization
Al-Hammoud noted that this activity is not new, dating back to the 1980s, but it declined significantly during the years of the “crisis.”
With the return of residents to their areas, some farms have restarted operations. Applications related to ornamental fish farming have also been recorded, reflecting signs of limited local economic recovery.
