The Syrian Ministry of Communications has announced that the Gemini application, developed by Google, is now available for direct use inside Syria without the need for VPN services or other methods of bypassing restrictions. The move allows users to access one of the world’s leading artificial intelligence services.
The ministry explained that making the service available enables users in Syria to benefit from Gemini’s tools across a wide range of fields, including conversations, content generation, research assistance, and information analysis, in addition to several other artificial intelligence applications offered by the platform.
The step comes after years of restrictions that limited users’ access inside Syria to a number of global technology services and platforms, prompting some to rely on alternative technical tools to access them.
The direct availability of Gemini represents a development in the accessibility of artificial intelligence services for users in Syria, particularly amid the growing global use of these technologies in education, employment, programming, content creation, and digital services.
This development is part of a series of changes witnessed by Syria’s digital services sector in recent months, alongside growing interest in expanding access to global platforms and technologies and enhancing the ability of users, students, and professionals to benefit from modern digital tools.
According to the ministry, users in Syria can now access Gemini directly without having to activate a VPN, as was previously the case.
