Dimasheq

The General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Syrian Arab Republic held a joint coordination meeting to discuss mechanisms for advancing national efforts to combat drug abuse and enhance the protection of society, as part of the ongoing implementation of the national campaign “Syria Without Drugs.”

The meeting was chaired by the Secretary-General of the Presidency, Abdulrahman Al-Ama, and attended by the Ministers of Interior, Health, Awqaf (Religious Endowments), and Culture, along with representatives from several ministries and relevant institutions. Participants reviewed the campaign’s achievements to date, as well as the challenges it faces, stressing the importance of transforming it from a public awareness campaign into a sustainable national program that integrates both prevention and treatment.

The participants emphasized the need to unify awareness messages, incorporate drug prevention concepts into educational curricula, strengthen constructive religious and media discourse, and organize awareness campaigns, lectures, and community activities through media outlets as well as sports and cultural events.

The meeting also discussed finalizing amendments to the Anti-Drug Law and establishing new treatment and rehabilitation centers across the governorates and within correctional institutions. Particular emphasis was placed on supporting individuals in recovery and facilitating their reintegration into society by connecting them with employment opportunities.
