The Syrian Petroleum Company signed a contract on Tuesday with two American companies to develop several gas fields in Syria and increase production from currently operating fields. The signing ceremony was held at the Ministry of Energy headquarters in Damascus.
According to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), the agreement aims to increase gas production from the targeted fields and modernize their operational infrastructure in line with the latest technical standards. It also seeks to support the development of the energy sector and attract international expertise and investment to help rehabilitate and upgrade the sector’s infrastructure.
Yousef Qablawi, CEO of the Syrian Petroleum Company, stated that the signing of the contract represents an important step in the development of Syria’s gas sector and reflects international partners’ confidence in the country’s investment opportunities. He added that the company looks forward to increasing production, improving operational efficiency, and strengthening the energy system in a way that positively impacts the national economy and meets citizens’ needs.
For his part, Ryan Lance, CEO of ConocoPhillips, said that the agreement is intended to support efforts to develop Syria’s gas fields and provide a practical framework for restoring and expanding gas production in the coming period.
