Support for Production Authority Discusses with the EU Delegation Enhancing Syrian Exports and Expanding Access to European Markets

Dimasheq

The Authority for Supporting and Developing Local Production and Exports discussed with the European Union Delegation in Damascus ways to strengthen joint cooperation in support of Syrian exports and expand opportunities for national products to access European markets, as part of efforts to develop the export sector over the coming years.

The Ministry of Economy and Industry stated on Friday that the meeting was chaired by Authority President Khaled Al-Khader and Head of the European Union Delegation’s team, Libor Khlad. The meeting included a review of the Authority’s vision for the 2026–2030 period, as well as discussions on the main challenges facing the development of Syrian exports and mechanisms for addressing them.

The two sides also discussed the importance of activating the REX system (Registered Exporter System), which enables Syrian exporters to benefit from the customs exemptions granted under the Generalised System of Preferences (GSP). This would contribute to simplifying export procedures, reducing costs, and enhancing the competitiveness of Syrian products in European markets.

The REX system is one of the systems adopted by the European Union to prove the preferential origin of exported goods. It is based on the principle of self-certification by the exporter, eliminating the need for customs authorities to issue a certificate of origin for each shipment. This contributes to accelerating export operations and facilitating access to European markets.
