The ancient city of Serjilla, located in the Jabal al-Zawiya region of Idlib Governorate in northwestern Syria, represents an important chapter in Syria’s rich historical heritage. It is considered one of the most prominent archaeological villages included within the “Ancient Villages of Northern Syria” site, which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Serjilla experienced significant prosperity during the 5th and 6th centuries AD, with its inhabitants relying on agriculture and trade, which contributed to urban development and economic growth.
To this day, the city preserves a remarkable collection of historical stone structures, including churches, baths, and olive presses, offering a unique model that documents daily life in the Syrian countryside during ancient times.
