Dimasheq – News

The Directorate of Emergency and Disaster Management in Idlib has announced a comprehensive emergency plan to address agricultural crop fires during the 2026 harvest season, as part of efforts to enhance rapid response capabilities and minimize potential damage to farmland.

Director of the Directorate, Ziad Harkoush, explained that the plan includes the deployment of more than 20 advanced intervention points in areas most vulnerable to wheat and barley fires, ensuring rapid access to fire locations and enabling teams to contain fires before they spread.

He added that the Directorate has contracted 21 water tankers equipped with pumps, along with 22 bulldozers fitted with specialized equipment to isolate fires and limit their spread. In addition, the Directorate of Agriculture is providing water tankers, technical personnel, and specialized workers. The Directorate has also contracted 48 civilian workers to participate in emergency response and firefighting operations throughout the season.

Harkoush confirmed that the readiness level has been raised across all Directorate centers and that implementation of the plan is being monitored directly in the field. He noted that the primary objective is to protect agricultural crops and reduce losses through rapid response and continuous coordination among all relevant authorities.
