The administration of the General Union of Craftsmen received a distinctive artistic gift presented by craftsman Antoine Maznar. The gift consisted of an artwork inspired by the curtain of the Holy Kaaba, crafted from high-quality Damascus brocade fabric, in an initiative that reflects the status of traditional Syrian handicrafts and their ability to express both cultural and spiritual values.
The artwork represents a fusion between the rich heritage of Damascene textile craftsmanship and the symbolism of the Kaaba’s covering. Damascus brocade is considered one of the most renowned traditional industries associated with the city of Damascus for centuries and has gained international recognition for its intricate weaving techniques and elegant decorative patterns.
The Union praised this gesture, noting that it contributes to highlighting Syrian handicrafts and showcasing their capacity to produce works that carry artistic and civilizational significance beyond their material value. The initiative also underscores the importance of preserving traditional crafts as an integral part of Syria’s cultural identity and supporting artisans who continue to create innovative works inspired by history while giving it renewed relevance in the present day.
