During the first half of 2026, the War Remnants Clearance and Mine Action teams of the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management carried out 981 operations to remove unexploded ordnance left behind by the war across various regions of Syria. The teams also conducted 369 non-technical survey operations to identify affected areas and assess the level of risk.
As part of ongoing efforts to reduce the dangers posed by explosive remnants of war, the specialized teams organized 631 risk awareness sessions aimed at educating local communities about the dangers of unexploded ordnance and the necessary safety precautions, with a particular focus on areas that experienced military activity in previous years.
The ministry stated that all unexploded ordnance and other explosive remnants were safely destroyed in accordance with approved procedures to ensure the protection and safety of civilians. It added that these activities are part of a comprehensive plan to secure affected sites and verify that they are free from explosive remnants of war.
The ministry further emphasized that clearance, survey, and awareness activities contribute to creating a safer environment for the return of civilians to their communities, reducing threats to human life, and supporting recovery and stabilization efforts in affected areas.
