The Syrian Artists Syndicate announced on Tuesday the passing of Syrian actor and theatre director Osama Al-Sayed Youssef at the age of 65, following a long career in the arts and cultural administration. Over more than four decades, he left a significant mark on Syrian theatre and drama.
Born in Idlib Province in 1961, the late artist graduated from the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts in Damascus in 1982. He then embarked on a professional journey that combined acting, directing, and cultural management, contributing to numerous projects aimed at developing Syria’s theatrical movement.
Osama Al-Sayed Youssef was known for his strong presence on the stage and his dedication to theatrical arts. He also paid special attention to nurturing and training young talents, while participating in a large number of artistic productions.
Throughout his career, he held several administrative and cultural positions, most notably serving as Director of the Aleppo National Theatre, and chaired a number of international arts festivals.
The late artist leaves behind a rich artistic legacy of more than 80 works across theatre, cinema, and television. His most notable productions include the plays Shooting from Behind and Bitter Coffee, the films Strangers’ Dust and The Final Epiphany of Ghaylan Al-Dimashqi, as well as well-known television series such as The Four-Year War, Khan Al-Harir, Exit from the Well, and City Kitchen.
