During his visit to Aleppo Governorate, Minister of Culture Mohammed Yassin Al-Saleh discussed with Aleppo Governor Azzam Al-Gharib the state of cultural work in the governorate and ways to develop it, the challenges facing the cultural sector, as well as أبرز projects and cultural achievements and a number of future projects aimed at strengthening Aleppo’s cultural and artistic infrastructure.
Minister Al-Saleh stressed that Aleppo, with its creative and historical stature, represents a significant pillar of the cultural scene. The city has produced schools of science and knowledge, musical traditions, and generations of creative figures in the fields of poetry, novels, and theatre, who have left a major impact on both the Syrian and Arab cultural scenes.
He noted that Aleppo is also a natural open-air museum, whose landmarks are not limited to its citadel, markets, and archaeological sites in both the city and its countryside. He explained that the Ministry of Culture is working to preserve, restore, and rehabilitate these sites.
The Minister of Culture pointed out that these assets make Aleppo a broad environment for cultural development and contribute to the process of cultural and social reconstruction underway in the new Syria.
For his part, Aleppo Governor Azzam Al-Gharib affirmed the governorate’s interest, along with that of its staff, in the cultural environment and in consolidating Aleppo’s position as Syria’s second capital, founded on the economy, knowledge, the arts, and the authentic social values for which its people are known.
Al-Gharib explained that Aleppo has gone through several stages in addressing the practices that prevailed during the former era, particularly the neglect, looting, and smuggling of antiquities. He stressed that all the governorate’s resources are dedicated to serving the cultural sector in its various fields.
