In preparation for revitalizing cultural heritage and strengthening its presence in public awareness, the Ministry of Culture is organizing the inauguration ceremony of the Giroud Private Museum of Folk Heritage on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, in the city of Giroud in the Damascus countryside, with the attendance of a number of officials and individuals interested in cultural and heritage affairs.
The opening of the museum comes as part of the Ministry of Culture’s efforts to preserve popular heritage and safeguard its tangible and intangible components, considering it an essential part of national identity and collective memory. It also aims to encourage private cultural initiatives that contribute to documenting civilizational heritage and making it accessible to future generations.
The museum includes a collection of artifacts and traditional tools that document daily life patterns, customs, and traditional crafts, reflecting the richness of the region’s cultural heritage and allowing visitors to explore various aspects of Syrian heritage within a specialized museum setting.
The museum will welcome visitors starting Thursday, July 2, 2026, and is considered the first private heritage museum to be inaugurated in Syria after liberation, marking a milestone that reflects the growing interest in private cultural initiatives and their role in preserving heritage and enhancing community participation in cultural work.
The inauguration is based on the Ministry of Culture’s decision issued on July 22, 2025, regarding the establishment and management of private heritage, artistic, and folk museums, and the regulatory framework governing them, thereby consolidating a legal and organizational structure that supports this type of cultural institution and encourages its expansion across various provinces.
