Dimasheq – News

The General Company for Homs Refinery has announced the restart of Unit No. 21, known as the “Czech Unit,” after completing extensive maintenance work aimed at improving operational efficiency and increasing the production of petroleum derivatives to meet local market demand.

The refinery’s General Director, Khaled Abdul Karim Mohammad Ali, stated that the unit has resumed operations at its designed capacity of approximately 1.7 million tons per year. The maintenance program included overhauling the main and secondary distillation towers, the unit’s furnace, the manufacturing of four heat exchanger bundles and two air-cooler bundles, as well as maintenance of instrumentation and pumps, all carried out by specialized national expertise.

He added that the restart of the unit will contribute to increasing the production of several petroleum products, most notably naphtha, kerosene, diesel fuel, and fuel oil, helping to ensure stable supplies and meet local market needs.

For his part, Production Director Firas Ali noted that the maintenance work faced challenges due to shortages of certain spare parts. However, reliance on local expertise and technical capabilities enabled the refinery to overcome these obstacles successfully. He also pointed out that the refinery currently operates six active production units.
