Under the patronage of the Syrian Ministry of Culture, the Syrian Forum for Arabic Calligraphy and Ornamentation will launch its activities in Damascus on August 10, 2026, continuing until August 15. The event will be held at the National Center for Visual Arts in Damascus, with the participation of a group of calligraphers, artists, and enthusiasts of Arabic calligraphy and ornamentation.

The forum is part of cultural and artistic activities aimed at celebrating Arabic calligraphy as one of the most prominent elements of Arab visual and cultural identity, highlighting Syrian artistic experiences in this field, and providing a space for interaction and exchange of expertise among artists and those interested in this art form.

The forum will open its doors to the public starting Tuesday, August 11, at 5:00 PM, allowing visitors to view the participating artworks and explore the experiences of a number of Syrian calligraphers and artists.

The forum’s program includes an art exhibition featuring works by calligraphers, presenting diverse examples of Arabic calligraphy and ornamentation that reflect the variety of schools and artistic styles associated with this art throughout history. It will also include specialized lectures and discussions addressing artistic and educational aspects related to Arabic calligraphy.

The program also features specialized workshops that provide participants and enthusiasts with the opportunity to learn practical calligraphy and ornamentation techniques and benefit from the expertise of participating artists and calligraphers, contributing to the transfer of artistic knowledge and strengthening the presence of this art among younger generations.

The forum will also witness the honoring of a number of distinguished masters of Arabic calligraphy, in recognition of their role in preserving, developing, and teaching this art to generations of calligraphers. This step highlights the contributions of pioneers to the history of Arabic calligraphy in Syria.

The organization of the forum reflects an interest in reintroducing traditional arts into the Syrian cultural scene, particularly Arabic calligraphy, which combines aesthetic value with cultural heritage and represents an essential part of the history of visual arts in the region.

The forum is expected to serve as a platform for interaction between the public and artists through exhibitions, workshops, and lectures, providing enthusiasts with the opportunity to discover Arabic calligraphy techniques and schools while enhancing the presence of this art in contemporary cultural and artistic life.
