Deputy Minister of Culture Mr. Saad Naassan discussed, during his visit to the Turkish Manuscripts Institution, with the institution’s President, Mr. George Ken Yilmaz, ways to develop cultural cooperation and exchange expertise in the fields of manuscript preservation, conservation, archiving, digitization, and restoration.

The meeting addressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between the two sides in the field of manuscripts and benefiting from the accumulated expertise and experience of specialized institutions. Such cooperation would contribute to protecting this cultural and historical heritage and ensuring its preservation according to modern scientific and technical methods, while also making it accessible to researchers and those interested through archiving and digitization projects.

During the visit, the Deputy Minister of Culture reviewed the Turkish Manuscripts Institution’s experience in managing and preserving manuscript collections, restoring them, and using technologies for their archiving and digitization, in addition to the mechanisms used to organize the collections and make them accessible to researchers.

The visit included the manuscript repository at the Süleymaniye Complex, where the Deputy Minister learned about methods for storing and protecting manuscripts. He also visited the institution’s exhibition and reading room, and reviewed some of its most notable publications and its role in supporting researchers and preserving the manuscript heritage.

The visit underscored the importance of expanding areas of cultural cooperation between institutions concerned with manuscripts in Syria and Türkiye, particularly in restoration, preventive conservation, digitization, and the exchange of technical expertise. Such efforts contribute to protecting the shared cultural and historical heritage and making it accessible to future generations and researchers.
