As part of ongoing efforts to protect cultural heritage and preserve historical landmarks in the city of Raqqa, the Directorate of Culture in Raqqa, in cooperation with the Raqqa City Council, has called on residents and various community groups to participate in a clean-up campaign at the Abbasid Mosque (Al-Jami’ al-Atiq), one of the most significant historical monuments reflecting the city’s deep-rooted heritage and centuries-long civilizational history.
The campaign is scheduled to begin on Sunday, 21 June 2026, at 6:00 PM, at the site of the Abbasid Mosque (Al-Jami’ al-Atiq), with the aim of cleaning its surroundings and restoring its appearance, highlighting the importance of this landmark in the collective memory of the city’s residents.
The organizing authorities emphasized that participation in this initiative represents a message of appreciation and loyalty to local heritage, while also contributing to raising awareness about the importance of preserving archaeological and historical sites and promoting a culture of volunteerism and social responsibility within the community.
This campaign is part of a series of activities aimed at protecting the cultural legacy of the city of Raqqa and highlighting its historical and civilizational value, ensuring its preservation for future generations.
The Directorate of Culture and the City Council have invited all residents and those interested in cultural and heritage affairs to attend and actively participate in this initiative, affirming that preserving historical landmarks is a shared responsibility that begins with the community itself.
