Director General of Antiquities and Museums Dr. Masoud Badawi presented, during his reception of a delegation of experts from the Faculty of Archaeology at the University of Warsaw, in the presence of Poland’s Chargé d’Affaires in Damascus, Piotr Wiszniewski, a joint vision for strengthening scientific and technical cooperation in the field of cultural heritage preservation and developing mechanisms for its documentation.
The meeting witnessed the announcement of the launch of a joint project to inventory the Palmyrene archaeological artefacts preserved at the National Museum in Damascus, in accordance with the latest scientific methodologies adopted in museum collection documentation and management. The project aims to enhance the efficiency of conservation and documentation processes and develop databases for archaeological collections.
The project also includes a specialized training program targeting staff members of the Directorate General of Antiquities and Museums. The program seeks to train a national team in archaeological artefact inventory methods and the application of three-dimensional documentation technologies, thereby strengthening the capabilities of national personnel in cultural heritage management and supporting efforts to preserve Syria’s cultural legacy in line with the latest scientific standards.
This cooperation comes within the framework of expanding international partnerships in the fields of archaeology and museums and exchanging technical and scientific expertise. It contributes to protecting Syria’s cultural heritage and developing mechanisms for its documentation and preservation for future generations.
