The Syrian Ministry of Interior stated that it is closely monitoring the developments and tensions witnessed in parts of Idlib Governorate, following public demands to hold accountable those involved in crimes and violations committed against Syrians during the years of the former regime.
In a statement, the ministry said it understands the anger and pain these violations have left among citizens, stressing that achieving justice and prosecuting those responsible for crimes must be carried out through the competent official institutions. It also affirmed that it will not tolerate anyone proven to have been involved in bloodshed or violations against Syrians.
The ministry called on citizens to exercise restraint and avoid any retaliatory actions or assaults outside the framework of the law, warning that such acts could threaten security and stability and hinder the course of justice. It also urged anyone possessing information or documented evidence regarding individuals involved in crimes to submit it to the relevant authorities so that the necessary legal measures can be taken.
Several areas in Idlib, as well as a number of other Syrian governorates, witnessed tensions yesterday following attacks targeting individuals accused of committing violations against civilians during the period of the former regime.
