Syrian Minister of Finance, Mohammad Yusr Barnieh, met with German Minister of State at the Federal Foreign Office and Member of the German Parliament, Serap Güler, to discuss prospects for enhancing economic and financial cooperation between Syria and Germany.
During the meeting, Barnieh reviewed the financial reforms being implemented by the Syrian government, emphasizing the importance of encouraging German companies, financial institutions, and banks to explore investment opportunities available in the Syrian market.
The two sides also discussed Syria’s openness to cooperation with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank, and the opportunities this could create for expanding collaboration with European partners in economic and development fields.
The Finance Minister called for the establishment of a specialized center for knowledge transfer, capacity building, and expertise development in Syria, aimed at identifying development needs and addressing existing gaps, thereby strengthening technical and investment cooperation.
Barnieh reaffirmed the Syrian government’s commitment to providing an attractive investment environment and developing a financial sector characterized by integrity, efficiency, and adherence to international best practices.
