An international Syrian rescue team from the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management departed from Damascus International Airport to participate in search, rescue, and humanitarian response operations following the earthquake that struck Venezuela. The mission was launched under the directives of President Ahmad Al-Sharaa and in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates.
The mission is being carried out in partnership with the International Rescue Team of Qatar’s Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya), as part of humanitarian cooperation and coordinated efforts to support rescue operations in the affected areas.
The Syrian team consists of 15 search and rescue specialists equipped with the necessary personal gear, while the Qatari teams are providing the heavy machinery and equipment required for field operations.
This mission marks a historic milestone in Syria’s humanitarian efforts, representing the country’s first international deployment of a rescue team to respond to a disaster beyond its borders, as well as the first overseas mission carried out by a specialized Syrian national search and rescue team.
