The Chargé d’Affaires of the European Union Delegation to Syria, Michael Ohnmacht, affirmed that achieving development and revitalizing the Syrian economy requires joint efforts from the Syrian government, donor countries, and the private sector, stressing the importance of strengthening cooperation in the coming phase.
Ohnmacht explained that sustainable recovery requires increased investment and expanded areas of technical and economic cooperation, contributing to the advancement of development and the achievement of long-term results.
He noted that international support alone is not sufficient to achieve early recovery in Syria, pointing out that the process requires investments worth billions of dollars, alongside an active role for the Syrian private sector and support from donor countries and the Syrian government to create a suitable environment and investment opportunities.
He also emphasized the importance of providing technical assistance, training programs, and benefiting from international expertise to enhance the capacities of Syrian institutions. He added that the European Union intends to launch a technical assistance center soon to support Syrian ministries and institutions and help them develop mechanisms for cooperation with the private sector.
In his concluding remarks, Ohnmacht stressed the need for full coordination between the Syrian government, donor countries, and the European Union in order to support development efforts and accelerate the pace of economic recovery in the country.
