The Central Bank of Syria confirmed that the old banknotes will remain legal tender and retain their full discharge value until the end of next July. This allows their use in all payment transactions and settlement of financial obligations, in addition to the possibility of exchanging them through officially approved outlets.
In an official statement, the bank explained that the end of the legal tender status of the old currency after the end of July does not mean that holders will lose the right to exchange it. It noted that withdrawal and exchange operations will continue for five years, according to regulatory mechanisms and procedures that will be announced later.
The bank urged citizens to rely on official sources and channels to follow news and instructions issued by it, warning against circulating or relying on any inaccurate information or interpretations regarding its decisions and announcements.
