The Syrian Telecommunications Company has denied the accuracy of reports and information circulating on social media platforms claiming that it had issued a decision to suspend wireless internet services or instructed companies operating in this field to remove their equipment before August 12.
In a statement, the company confirmed that the information being circulated was not based on any decision issued by it, noting that the regulation of wireless and radio internet services, the granting of licenses required to operate in this sector, and the monitoring of entities and companies providing these services fall under the jurisdiction of the Telecommunications and Postal Regulatory Authority.
The company explained that the Syrian Telecommunications Company continues to provide telecommunications and internet services within the approved regulatory frameworks and guidelines, urging the public not to be misled by information that has not been issued by the competent official authorities.
The clarification comes amid reports of expected changes to the mechanism for providing wireless internet services, accompanied by concerns among some companies and subscribers over the continuity of the service or the removal of equipment used to provide it.
The company reaffirmed its commitment to supporting efforts aimed at regulating and developing the telecommunications sector and improving its operational mechanisms, contributing to higher service quality and better telecommunications and internet services for citizens. It also stressed that any decisions concerning licensing and the regulation of wireless internet services fall under the authority of the competent regulatory body.
