The Syrian Forum for Arabic Calligraphy and Ornamentation has kicked off at the National Center for Visual Arts in Damascus, in the presence of Minister of Culture Mohammed Yassin Al-Saleh, with broad participation celebrating the beauty of Arabic script and the diversity of its artistic schools and styles.
More than 100 calligraphers and artists are taking part in the forum, presenting over 130 artworks that reflect the diversity of experiences and styles in Arabic calligraphy and ornamentation. The event also provides a space for emerging talents to experiment, innovate, and express their artistic visions.
The forum features a diverse cultural and artistic program exploring the history and development of Arabic calligraphy and its various schools, alongside activities highlighting the significance of this art as one of the most prominent forms of creativity associated with Arab identity and culture.
The first day concluded with the honoring of a number of talented calligraphers in recognition of their participation and artistic contributions, underscoring the importance of supporting emerging talents, preserving Arabic calligraphy, and developing its presence in Syria’s cultural scene.
The forum is being held as part of efforts to celebrate Arabic calligraphy as an authentic art form that brings together the beauty of the letter and the spirit of creativity, while giving younger generations an opportunity to discover its secrets and reinterpret it through contemporary artistic perspectives
