The first issue of the Turkish magazine Tasihih has been published, featuring a special dossier titled “Gaza: Humanity’s Last Way Out,” which has attracted widespread attention. The magazine brings together a group of specialists in international politics, history, sociology, culture, and the arts to examine the Palestinian cause from a multidisciplinary perspective.
The magazine will be published every two months. Khalil Korbetoglu serves as editor-in-chief, while Fikri Cumhur holds the position of editorial coordinator. The editorial board includes prominent figures from academic, intellectual, and media circles, including Professor Yasin Aktay, Professor Enis Doku, Salman Emre Gürbüz, Turan Kışlakçı, Professor Zahide Tuba Kor, Berin Birsaigli Mut, Cuma Obuz, Dr. Selim Sezer, and Associate Professor Selçuk Türkyılmaz.
Gaza Examined from Different Perspectives and Disciplines
The magazine’s first issue addresses the Palestinian cause through a comprehensive, multidimensional approach encompassing history, international law, colonialism, the media, cultural heritage, and the history of thought.
Salman Emre Gürbüz contributes an article titled “Colonial Concepts: Eurocentrism,” while Turan Kışlakçı writes on “Emir Abdelkader al-Jazairi and the Emergence of the Islamic Resistance Mindset.” Zahide Tuba Kor examines “The Genocide in Gaza,” while Berin Birsaigli Mut contributes an article entitled “The Destruction of Cultural Heritage in Gaza.”
The issue also includes a study by Associate Professor Selçuk Türkyılmaz titled “Israeli Settler Colonialism in Francesca Albanese’s Reports,” and an article by Professor Yasin Aktay entitled “Rethinking the Concept of the Expendable Human Through Palestine and Sacrifice.” It also features Cuma Obuz’s article “The Gaza Journalists Who Unmasked the Facades,” alongside Dr. Selim Sezer’s study “On Ilan Pappé’s Book: Ten Myths About Israel and Refuting Pro-Israel Disinformation Narratives.”
Dr. Seda Özkalçan Alsanad, a faculty member at Hamad Bin Khalifa University, contributes to the first issue with an article titled “On Jewish Opposition to Israel,” while Professor Enis Doku examines the question: “How Was Palestine Marginalized in Academic Circles?”
An article by Bernard Porter, titled “The Israeli-Palestinian Conflict Is Not a Cultural Conflict, but a Colonial Conflict,” has also been translated into Turkish by Abdullah Asım Gökman.
A Notable Interview with Avi Shlaim
The issue also features an extensive interview conducted by Professor Zahide Tuba Kor with historian Avi Shlaim, a professor at the University of Oxford and a member of the British Academy.
Shlaim is known for his critical approach to the writing of Israeli history and is regarded as one of the leading historians associated with the “New Historians” school. In the interview, he discusses Israeli policies from the establishment of Israel to the present day, placing the events in Gaza within their broader historical context.
Shlaim’s statements, in which he describes Israeli practices using the concepts of “ethnic cleansing” and “genocide,” are among the most prominent sections of the dossier featured in the issue.
Palestinian Articles Spanning History, Culture, and the Arts
Tasihih also features a study by editor-in-chief Khalil Korbetoglu titled “The First Zionists in Turkey: Nasi and the Mendes Family,” as well as an article by Ahmed Erkan entitled “The Empire’s Last Front: The Defeat of Palestine and the Fall of the Ottoman State.”
The issue also includes an exclusive interview with actor Sinan Albayrak, one of the participants in the Mavi Marmara flotilla, which attempted to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza sixteen years ago.
Alongside a chronological dossier documenting the most significant developments in Gaza over the past two months, the issue includes specialized articles examining photography, Palestinian poetry and culture, and artists and athletes who have taken positions against the occupation. It also features selections of books, films, and music dealing with Palestine and the occupation.
