Syrian Minister of Culture Mohammed Yassin Saleh discussed with his Jordanian counterpart, Mustafa Al-Rawashdeh, ways to strengthen cultural cooperation between Syria and Jordan and benefit from their shared experiences and expertise in a number of cultural programs and projects.
The meeting was held at the Conference Hall of the Royal Cultural Center in the Jordanian capital, Amman, ahead of the opening ceremony of the 25th edition of the Amman International Book Fair, where Syria is the guest of honor. A number of officials from the Syrian and Jordanian ministries of culture attended the meeting.
The discussions addressed the main cultural issues and projects being undertaken by the Syrian Ministry of Culture, as well as areas of cooperation related to intangible cultural heritage, including traditional pottery and other areas of mutual interest.
Saleh stressed the importance of benefiting from Jordan’s cultural experience, particularly in the programs and projects implemented by the Jordanian Ministry of Culture, within the framework of the memorandum of understanding expected to be signed between the two countries.
For his part, Al-Rawashdeh expressed his appreciation for Syria’s participation in the Amman International Book Fair, highlighting Syria’s rich cultural heritage and depth. He also reviewed the main events organized by the Jordanian Ministry of Culture during the current and upcoming period, including the 11th edition of the Jordan Film Festival.
Al-Rawashdeh noted that the ministry is working to implement the “Our Jordan in Our Eyes” program as part of the Narrative Project, aimed at photographing and documenting heritage, archaeological and tourist sites, as well as natural landscapes across the Kingdom’s various governorates. He added that the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the Syrian Ministry of Culture is expected soon, covering a number of joint cultural programs and areas of cooperation.
The Syrian delegation accompanying the Minister of Culture included Minister’s Office Director Mohammed Al-Rahabi; Head of Heritage Affairs at the ministry Asmaa Hmeir; Director of the Cultural Centers Directorate Mousa Sweidan; Head of Cultural Affairs Salam Hmeir; Director of Exhibitions at the Syrian General Book Organization Marhaf Abdul-Jawad; and Aiham Othman from the media office.
