Kindi Cinema in the city of Latakia will host a screening of the documentary film “Memory in Khaki” by director Al-Fawaz Tanjour on Friday evening, August 14. The film explores Syrian memory through personal testimonies and stories that revisit the impact of fear, authoritarianism and exile, as well as the lasting effects of years of repression on Syrians’ lives and collective memory.
The film approaches the Syrian experience from a human and personal perspective, away from direct political narration. It tells the stories of people who lived through fear and repression and, at different stages, were forced to leave the country. Their individual experiences become a space for reflecting on the memory of an entire generation that witnessed the profound transformations Syria underwent.
“Memory in Khaki” adopts a poetic approach to revisiting the past, drawing on details from the characters’ lives and memories, along with the feelings of fear, loss and displacement that accompanied them. The film seeks to understand how painful experiences continue to affect individuals even after they have moved away from the places where those experiences took place.
