The Israeli Air Force has warned of signs that Syria is gradually rebuilding its military capabilities, according to a report by The Jerusalem Post. The report noted that the reconstruction effort includes upgrades to radar systems and air defense networks.
It also indicated that Israel had carried out operations in December 2024 targeting most of Syria’s strategic and long-range weapons following the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, including a significant portion of the country’s advanced air defense systems.
According to the newspaper, the United States is currently moving toward strengthening ties with Syria’s new leadership under Ahmad al-Sharaa. At the same time, Washington has imposed restrictions in recent months on most Israeli military activities inside Syria, while allowing Israel to maintain a presence in a buffer zone in the south.
The report added that Syria’s restoration of its air defense capabilities could have strategic implications for Israeli security, with the scale of the impact depending on how advanced these capabilities become and the future nature of relations between Damascus and Tel Aviv.
