The National Commission for Transitional Justice affirmed that the fate of Dr. Rania Abbasi’s children represents one of the most painful humanitarian cases, reflecting the suffering of thousands of Syrian families who are still waiting to learn the fate of their loved ones.
In a statement, the Commission explained that it continues to support efforts to uncover the truth and achieve legal accountability, stressing the necessity of holding all those involved in grave crimes and serious violations committed against Syrian men and women accountable.
It emphasized that the right of victims and their families to know the truth is an inherent right that does not lapse with time, and that obtaining accurate information about the fate of victims constitutes a fundamental step on the path toward justice.
The Commission added that revealing the fate of victims does not mean closing cases or ending the course of justice, but rather represents the beginning of further investigations, uncovering all circumstances, and identifying those responsible, regardless of their positions or affiliations.
It also called on media outlets to handle the case with a high level of responsibility and full respect for the dignity of victims, and to refrain from publishing or circulating any unverified information that could harm them or their families.
