Syrian–Saudi Cooperation to Develop the Transport Sector and Exchange Technical Expertise
The Assistant Minister of Transport in Syria, Mohammad Omar Rahhal, announced that meetings held by the ministry’s delegation in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia last week resulted in the formation of specialized Syrian technical teams. These teams aim to study the Saudi experience and benefit from it in developing various areas of the transport sector in Syria.
Rahhal explained that the visit included extensive discussions addressing the mechanisms and conditions for the entry of Syrian trucks into Saudi territory, in addition to learning about the “Logisti” transport platform التابعة to the General Transport Authority and its operational mechanisms, particularly regarding freight transport, passenger services, and delivery operations, as well as traffic violation monitoring systems.
He noted that an agreement was reached with the Saudi side to establish a technical team from the General Establishment for Road Transport to gain deeper insight into the Saudi experience in this field, in preparation for its application in a way that contributes to improving the quality of road infrastructure in Syria, according to SANA.
Regarding the railway sector, Rahhal stated that the discussions addressed the foundations of establishing a rail link between Syria and Saudi Arabia within a regional corridor extending through Jordan and Turkey, as well as reviewing the current state of Syria’s railway network.
